How to cook red beans?

Red beans stewed with vegetables

You can stew red beans with vegetables: it will turn out very tasty and nutritious, and there will be few calories in this dish. So, for its preparation you will need the following products:

  • 250 g of beans;
  • 500 ml of water;
  • 1 carrot;
  • 1 onion;
  • 2 cloves of garlic;
  • 1 bunch of parsley;
  • 10 ml of vegetable oil;
  • 20 ml of tomato paste;
  • salt, pepper - to taste.

Soak the beans in cold water overnight. During this time, it will swell, due to which it will be possible to reduce the time of its preparation. In addition, harmful substances will escape from the beans.

Before cooking, drain the water and rinse the beans several times. Then put it in the pan and cover with water.Salt and cook under a lid on low heat until fully cooked. If necessary, add more water.

It so happens that the liquid remains quite a lot, it can simply be drained. After that, add oil to the pan and simmer the beans under the lid for about 10 minutes. During this time, peel the onions and carrots, wash them and cut them into cubes. Add them to the beans, then add the tomato paste and simmer until tender. Chop parsley and garlic and send to the beans, mix thoroughly. You can serve the dish on the table.

Red Bean Salad

Thinking about how to cook delicious red beans, you can stay on the salad with beans and herring. It cooks pretty quickly, and it turns out very tasty. Salad will require the following ingredients:

  • 1 salted herring;
  • 250 g canned red beans;
  • 2 apples (sour varieties);
  • 2 beets;
  • 1 red onion;
  • 3 eggs;
  • 30 ml of mayonnaise;
  • salt - to taste.

Wash the beets, boil, peel and cut into medium sized cubes. Boil eggs hard-boiled, peel off the shells and chop. Peel herring, wash, dry, and cut into cubes. From the apples, remove the core and grate.Peel and chop the onion. Drain the canned beans and rinse under running water. Put all ingredients in one bowl, season with mayonnaise and mix. Ready salad put in the fridge for 15 minutes, so that it is present. After that it can be served on the table.

To reduce the calorie content of the salad, you can substitute mayonnaise with sour cream or yogurt. Salad can also be supplemented with ingredients such as:

  • salted or pickled cucumbers;
  • spring onions;
  • boiled carrots;
  • boiled potatoes;
  • crab sticks.

If you want to save time, you can buy herring fillets in the store; you will not need to clean it and choose small bones from it. If you could not find canned beans, you can cook a salad with boiled. To do this, you will need to soak it for at least 2 hours in water and boil.
