How to change the fuel filter on Chevrolet

The fuel filter can be replaced even in the field. Of course, it is preferable to carry out repair work on the observation pit, so much more convenient. But if it is not possible to drive into a pit or overpass, you can lift the back of the car coasting, or work from a pallet.
Before starting work, you will need to relieve pressure from the fuel system. To do this, remove the fuel pump fuse from the mounting block, start the engine and allow it to stall due to lack of gasoline.

Fuel Filter Location

Although most Chevrolet models have standard fuel filters, their location may vary. For example, in the Lacetti and Niva filter is located directly under the fuel tank, and in the Aveo it is mounted in the engine compartment near the fuel pump.

Removing the filter housing

The fuel filter is installed, as a rule, in a protective casing, which, together with the holder, is tightened with an M6 bolt.In the same place attached black wire mass. The bolt needs to be unscrewed with a socket wrench for 10, remove the ring terminal and disassemble the casing. Bend down the metal bracket is not necessary: the filter is easier to pull out by pulling on its back.

Disconnect the fuel line

Before removing the fuel filter, you will need to disconnect it from the fuel line. On the supply hose there is a black retainer with two grooves, which include gray latches located on the smooth fitting of the fuel filter. They need to be pressed by hand or with the help of fine-nose pliers and gently budged, slightly shaking the hose from side to side.
The outgoing tube has a white retainer with a special tongue that opens the lock. This tongue needs to be picked up with a thin screwdriver and the tip moved, after which the filter can be easily removed. When removing the tubes you need to be very careful: the plastic can be quite fragile due to drying.

Installing a new filter

A new filter should be brought into the holder and attached to it the inlet and outgoing hoses. Fixation occurs with a slight pressure, a click should be heard, indicating that the lock connection is closed. When the tubes are attached, the filter is closed by a casing, the ground wire terminal is put on the coupling bolt, after which the latter is tightened with a little effort.
The pressure in the fuel system can not be relieved, but in this case a small amount of gasoline will flow out of the hose, which may cause an unpleasant smell in the cabin. If the clamps are broken, you will need to purchase new factory-made hoses. The use of wire or band clamps is not allowed.
